Second Act Transition Services L3C was born when the founders, Mary Jo Rathgeb and Donald A. Rathgeb, Jr found themselves in their own second act and realized how many friends and family were experiencing them as well. Since widowhood eight years ago, Mary Jo has moved three times, and downsized the estate of her late husband. Donald recently left the corporate world and loves helping people de-clutter and maintain their homes and yards. The team is currently working on de-cluttering the home of Donald Rathgeb, Sr. to help him age in the home he has lived in for more than 50 years.
The idea to start the company came when Mary Jo and her partner Michael were helping a relative downsize her late stepfather’s apartment. She saw how the force of emotions and memories made downsizing difficult for family members. Yet, Mary Jo and Michael offered compassion and provided structure to the process, which enabled the family to keep working through the stuff. When one of the relatives turned to Michael and asked him what to do next, Mary Jo realized how important and needed the services they could provide were.
Donald has been helping family and friends downsize and move for years, and when the opportunity to launch Second Act was presented, Donald understood the growing need for compassionate, caring people to help older adults and their families downsize, move or modify their homes to stay where they are as they age. Today, Donald’s role at Second Act is to oversee your entire project from the initial consultation to fruition ensuring your upmost satisfaction whether you downsize, age in place or relocate to a new home.
In creating Second Act Transition Services, the founders combine their collective organizational and project management skills with a caring and compassionate approach to serving the growing number of adults who need help with downsizing, planning moves or modifying their current home to allow them to stay there.
